The state of the art of flow cytometry in biochemical and molecular biosciences

About this Special Issue

  1. Manuscript Submission Deadline 13 September 2026

Background

This special issue is dedicated to showcasing how conventional and spectral flow cytometry, including cell sorting, enable quantitative, multiparametric analyses in biochemical and molecular biosciences across eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems.
We welcome high-quality original research, methods papers and authoritative reviews that advance mechanistic insight, analytical performance, standardization or translation into clinical, environmental and industrial contexts.

Submissions should provide transparent reporting of sample preparation, instrument settings, controls and analysis strategy (including gating or computational workflows), with sufficient detail to support reproducibility and robust interpretation.

This Special Issue welcomes contributions to both fundamental research and practical aspects of clinical, industrial, and technological applications of flow cytometry, including process monitoring, quality control, and bioprocess optimization.

Potential areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:
● Spectral flow cytometry and high-dimensional analysis, including panel design, controls, unmixing and
quality assurance
● Data science for cytomics: best practices for high-dimensional cytometry from preprocessing to biological
insight
● Cytometry-based functional and biochemical readouts
● Sorting-enabled workflows and downstream assays
● Microbial cytometry, host-pathogen interaction studies and biotechnology workflows
● Aquatic cytometry
● Plant cytometry
● Clinical and diagnostic applications with appropriate analytical validation and controls
● Industrial and biotechnological applications

Authors are welcome to submit articles presenting original studies or literature review work. Please consult the journal's information regarding Article Types, Author Guidelines, and Publishing Fees, or direct any questions to the Editorial Office: abp@frontierspartnerships.org.

Even though abstract submission is not mandatory, we encourage all interested researchers to submit a “manuscript summary” before submitting their article. Manuscript summaries do not have to coincide with the final abstract of the article.
