With this Special Issue (SI), the Spanish Journal of Soil Science (SJSS) starts a series of regionally- and/or country-focused SIs. In the current SI, Galician researchers, and/or researchers from any country working on Soil Science (and/or related aspects of Environmental Sciences) dealing with Galicia are invited to prepare and submit manuscripts to this collection. These could be full-length research papers, short communications, review papers, or perspective contributions.

After previous conversations, the Guest Editors of the SI have received positive responses from a variety of research teams for preparing interesting works on different subjects and fields within soil and environmental sciences in Galicia, but it would be nice to increase the number and reach as many as possible to cover a wide range of environmental situations and issues. This geographic area shares borders with Portugal, the Spanish Autonomous Communities of Castilla-León, and Asturias, and the Atlantic Ocean, and has a marked diversity in geology, climate, geomorphology, landscapes, soils, forests, crops, fauna, and the whole environment, as well as specific social, cultural, industrial and economy aspects, and so on, allowing to perform a picture that could be a good starting point for this kind of SIs in the SJSS.

Please note that all accepted papers will be published, and may be also included in an eBook. Specifically, as indicated in the For Authors page, at the website of the Journal: "Special Issue Submissions: Special Issues with 9-10 or more accepted articles will be published as an eBook. If that threshold is not reached, the accepted articles submitted to Special Issues will be published in a Regular Issue, with the same relevance, but not grouped under the initially intended title of the Special Issue."

The Guest Editors of this Special Issue encourage potential authors to prepare and submit their manuscripts to the SI, following the indications included on the website.
