About this Special Issue
The 1970’s saw the start of the revolution in biomedical science that was to be molecular biology, followed shortly by its offspring, first molecular genetics and then, applying these revolutionary techniques to disease, the development of molecular pathology. Leaving aside the huge psychological uplift of the publication of the entire human genome, this new discipline can offer unparalleled assurance of the presence of a gene mutation with direct relevance to the diagnosis and management of a particular disease. This special issue of the British Journal of Biomedical Science will focus on the impact of molecular pathology in selected cancers, and how it is disseminated to students in higher education.
