About this Special Issue
In recent years, social media has become increasingly important in modern society, including the world we maneuver in as surgeons. As several studies have pointed out, social media engagement is becoming increasingly important for medical professionals and, consequently, a necessity for journals and organizations to stay relevant.
We are all social, just the methods are changing, getting more attractive but at the same time easier. Today, when we say social media, we understand the developments that develop over internet-based applications.
Why use social media in developing an abdominal wall surgical career? It doesn’t matter if you are an old expert or a young resident trying to learn abdominal wall surgery. We all need to broaden our horizons. Social media make networking super easy. What is more, you can connect with experts, discuss surgical practice, make appointments, start projects, ask questions, raise doubts, but most importantly solve problems, get support and make new friends. We all create a social media environment for ourselves.
Led by Hakan Gök and Shirin Towfigh, this Special Issue is intended to uncover the pros and cons of social media for abdominal wall surgeons. It will present the latest cutting-edge reviews, original research and opinion papers from the leading experts in the field. Submissions are welcome on (but not limited to):
- Impact of social media on the collaboration of abdominal wall surgeons
- How to balance social media in real life
- Contribution of social media to abdominal wall surgeon's education
- Useful social media tools for abdominal wall surgeons
