About this Special Issue
We are excited to present the inaugural Journal of Abdominal Wall Surgery - Women in Abdominal Wall Surgery Special Issue to celebrate the achievements of women in the field of hernia surgery with the aim of inspiring the next generation of female surgeons.
At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. However, science and gender equality are essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO.
Led by Nadia A. Henriksen and Barbora East this Special Issue will highlight the latest research from women in the field of abdominal wall surgery from across the globe.
The Special Issue will highlight the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of abdominal wall surgery led by women, and present advances in theory, experiment and methodology with applications to compelling problems. Submissions are welcome on (but not limited to):
• Women in surgery and research
• Women with hernias
• Rectus diastasis
• Abdominal wall hernias in general
We also invite authors to include a section on personal reflections on life in academia within their manuscript.
