Translational Strategies for Substance Abuse Disorders

About this Special Issue

Each spring, the UN International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking rallies together communities around the world impacted by substance abuse disorders and drug trafficking. In support of efforts to improve existing and implement new therapeutics for drug and alcohol abuse, Advances in Drug and Alcohol Research has launched this Special Issue on translational strategies for substance abuse disorders. The collection welcomes research on chemical structure and composition, modes of action, physiological effects, and approaches to treatment. It will combine basic and applied science to provide insight into drug abuse as a global phenomenon and promote evidence-based solutions that communities can implement.

The 2021 World Drug Report foregrounded cannabis usage, internet-based sales of illicit drugs, COVID-19 and innovation around drug use screening and treatment programs, and the implications of misinformation around drugs and alcohol as central issues for research and policy around drug use in the coming decade. This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts on these themes, as well related topics including but not limited to:

• Opioid use disorders and their treatment
• Global approaches to the treatment of substance abuse disorder
• Balancing access to essential medicines and non-medical use
• Dynamics of use and abuse of cannabis/cannabinoids

We welcome Original Research, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, and Brief Research Reports, pertaining to all world regions, and any pre-submission questions may be sent to the Editorial Office at: adar.office@frontierspartnerships.org.

For authors, please also review the journal's information regarding Author Guidelines and Article Processing Charges, or direct any questions to the Editorial Office: adar.office@frontierspartnerships.org.
