The publication of a high-quality randomised trial of oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion from a European multi-centre collaboration is an important milestone in this evolution. This study addresses one of the key limitations in DCD liver transplantation, and has shown evidence of an important reduction in the incidence of clinically diagnosed non-anastomotic biliary strictures in DCD liver transplants.
