One of such courageous women was Maria Glazovskaya who worked in highlands and semi-deserts studying soils, recent and relic, geochemical features of hard rock weathering, and compiling maps, both traditional and innovative. She was among the first pedologists, who proposed to use soil properties for forecasting pollution risks, and landscape-geochemical methods for prospecting economic minerals. As for conceptual sphere, Glazovskaya tried to bring together soil science and geochemistry of landscape, and so was the name of the department in Moscow University she headed during more than 30 years. She was a scientist always looking for her own ways in the interdisciplinary world of Earth science.
