We ask what kinds of value residents attribute to these local art and culture institutions and what kind of economic value their visitors’ expenditure illustrates. Our analysis is based on a survey we conducted in 2019 that was aimed at the visitors and non-visitors of these institutions. The results illustrate several values of art and culture institutions, which also point to multiple policy domains related to art, economy, social and well-being effects. According to previous research in cultural policy, it is important to be aware of various cultural dimensions of future cultural policy. Though conflicting aims exist regarding cultural values, varied value dimensions complement each other in future-oriented policies.
