AUTHOR=Gallea Cécile , Popa Daniela TITLE=Editorial: Exploring dystonia symptoms through animal models and patient studies JOURNAL=Dystonia VOLUME=Volume 2 - 2023 YEAR=2024 URL=https://www.frontierspartnerships.org/journals/dystonia/articles/10.3389/dyst.2023.12554 DOI=10.3389/dyst.2023.12554 ISSN=2813-2106 ABSTRACT=Fine control of postural tone and complex limb coordination is orchestrated by the integration of information from the basal ganglia (BG), cerebellum (CB), and cerebral cortex. Dystonia, characterized by abnormal postures and movements, results from impaired integration within and between these nodes. This issue compiles insights from researchers employing animal models, patient studies, and experts in cortical physiology, BG, and CB. This issue advances our understanding of dystonia pathophysiology by integrating human and animal model data. Common pathophysiological mechanisms are identified, and therapeutic strategies targeting both motor and non-motor dysfunctions are envisioned for future improvements. Ultimately, this multilevel analysis enhances our comprehension of the intricate brain circuits contributing to dystonia and informs the development of more effective therapeutic interventions.
